a month agoPlease review the mass schedule and arrive as early as possible. The parking area was somewhat congested, although some vehicles were permitted to park outside. Nevertheless, the objective is to pray & find peace The Basilica of San Sebastian Church is one of the most impressive churches in Manila. It holds the distinction of being the sole all-steel church in the Philippines. The steel utilized in its construction was imported from Belgium and assembled in Manila during the latter part of the 1800s. The initial structure was constructed using wood, but it was unfortunately destroyed during the Chinese-Filipino uprising. The subsequent structure was built using bricks, but it too was destroyed, this time by a significant earthquake. The current structure is the third iteration, constructed using steel. Fortunate enough, we get to stay a little longer after the Mass. We walked near the altar, the priest welcomed & blessed us. At the moment, church is being restored as some parts are already deteriorating.

7 months agoThis church is one of the most beautiful and historic churches in the country. It is well known for being the only church in Asia that is completely made of steel. Both the exterior and interior are designed with neo-gothic architecture, which is extremely rare in the Philippines. The mass I had here was one of the best masses I have ever attended. Highly recommend visiting if you are close to it.

10 months agoSteel structure built in the 1800s, by the Augustinian friars. All steel design was manufactured in Belgium, shipped by several galleons to the country and assembled by the local construction teams. Designed hollow steel foundations to withstand destructive earthquakes and sway with it, minimizing potential structural damage. Currently being restored and conserved to its full glory under the auspices of the National Museum of History. Visit while you still can. Walking tours are also available - all proceeds go to the restoration and conservation efforts.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
