2 weeks agoSan Sebastián Church Recoletos is a truly unique and captivating place of worship. From the moment you step inside, the rustic metal interior immediately sets it apart from traditional churches, giving it a distinct and memorable character. The intricate metalwork creates a warm, industrial yet sacred atmosphere that feels both modern and timeless. One of the highlights of the church is its impressive organ choir. The music fills the space beautifully, adding to the spiritual ambiance. The audio quality is clear and well-balanced, making it easy to appreciate the hymns and liturgical music. However, it’s worth noting that the interior can get a little hot, especially during warmer days. This might be something to keep in mind if you’re visiting in the summer or during peak temperatures. Overall, San Sebastián Church Recoletos is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience a unique blend of history, architecture, and spirituality. Its distinctive design, combined with the beautiful music and serene atmosphere, makes it a standout destination in the city.

3 months agoPlease review the mass schedule and arrive as early as possible. The parking area was somewhat congested, although some vehicles were permitted to park outside. Nevertheless, the objective is to pray & find peace The Basilica of San Sebastian Church is one of the most impressive churches in Manila. It holds the distinction of being the sole all-steel church in the Philippines. The steel utilized in its construction was imported from Belgium and assembled in Manila during the latter part of the 1800s. The initial structure was constructed using wood, but it was unfortunately destroyed during the Chinese-Filipino uprising. The subsequent structure was built using bricks, but it too was destroyed, this time by a significant earthquake. The current structure is the third iteration, constructed using steel. Fortunate enough, we get to stay a little longer after the Mass. We walked near the altar, the priest welcomed & blessed us. At the moment, church is being restored as some parts are already deteriorating.

9 months agoThis church is one of the most beautiful and historic churches in the country. It is well known for being the only church in Asia that is completely made of steel. Both the exterior and interior are designed with neo-gothic architecture, which is extremely rare in the Philippines. The mass I had here was one of the best masses I have ever attended. Highly recommend visiting if you are close to it.

a year agoSteel structure built in the 1800s, by the Augustinian friars. All steel design was manufactured in Belgium, shipped by several galleons to the country and assembled by the local construction teams. Designed hollow steel foundations to withstand destructive earthquakes and sway with it, minimizing potential structural damage. Currently being restored and conserved to its full glory under the auspices of the National Museum of History. Visit while you still can. Walking tours are also available - all proceeds go to the restoration and conservation efforts.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
